History
Originally founded as a civil construction company, Taifa Mining & Civils was awarded it’s first mining contract with Williamson Diamonds Ltd in 1998. The contract marked the beginning of a journey that led to Taifa Mining & Civils becoming the largest contract miner in Tanzania within 10 years. Petra Diamonds
Williamson Diamond Mine
1998 – Present
Up to the awarding of the contract with Williamson Diamonds Ltd, owned and operated by De Beers, in 1998, Taifa was a civil construction company. The flagship project of the mining division has been the mining contract at De Beers Williamson Diamonds Limited at Mwadui, first awarded in 1998 for 2 years. The mine initially operated at a capacity of 4 million tons per annum, ramping up to 10 million tonnes per annum in 2010. In 2024 Taifa hauled an average of 1 million tons of ore per month.
The scope of services commenced in 1998 and includes Drilling and Blasting, Loading and Hauling of 4 million Tonnes per annum of kimberlite and alluvial mining, together with waste stripping. Taifa is also responsible for maintenance of existing roads, constructing and maintaining additional haul roads and drainage systems, and construction of slimes dams.
Barrick Tulawaka
Gold Mine
2004 – 2009
Mine establishment & contract mining operations began at Tulawaka gold mine in Tanzania for Barrick Gold in 2004. Taifa continued as the mining contractor for the duration of the life of the mine, moving a total of 14 million bank cubic meters, utilising a purpose bought and sized Komatsu fleet.

Resolute Mining
Golden Pride Mine
2006 – 2015
Contract mining services started in 2006 at Golden Pride gold mine for Resolute Mining Ltd., where Taifa operated a fleet of 15 Caterpillar 777 off highway trucks for the duration of the contract, moving a total of 23 million bank cubic meters over the life-of-mine contract.
- Drill & blast, load & haul, and feed of material from the open pit and low-grade ore re-handling.
- Maintenance of existing roads, drainage systems and performance of rehabilitation work on existing and future mining areas, and successive lifts to the tailings dam.
- Grade control drilling services.
Anglo Gold Ashanti
Geita Gold Mine
2003 – 2006
Taifa Mining & Civils was awarded successive contracts for construction of the main airstrip, construction of the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) stage 6 and stage 7, and construction of multiple ancillary outer buildings. A Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) lift was completed in 2004, with a total value of the contracts completed on site is in excess of 6 million dollars.
Barrick Bulyanhulu

2013 – 2024
In 2013 Taifa was awarded contracts for the completion of a new cil expansion project and construction of the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) stage 4. In 2024 Taifa was awarded contract for construction of a box cut portal for access to a new underground mine.
